About This Image

The number 6 Gulf-liveried Ford GT40 leading through a tree-lined corner at Le Mans, with a Porsche and a third car following through.

What Is in This Photograph?

A black-and-white frame taken from the outside of a right-hand corner, the GT40 close and low in the foreground with its wheels turned into the apex and the driver's helmet just visible through the screen. It carries a large number 6 on the door and nose, a Gulf badge ahead of the sill, and the low coupe roofline and twin nose ducts of a Mk I. Behind it a closed Porsche carrying number 18 is committed to the same corner, and a third car is further back at the crest. Tall trees crowd the left of the frame above hoardings for Antar and Martini, with straw bales and a low fence lining the track. The road surface is pale and patched, and a marshal's post stands at the far left.

Which Race Is This?

Number 6 is the identity that chassis P/1075 carried at Le Mans in 1969, when it won for the second consecutive year, having taken the 1968 race as well. In 1969 it crossed the line just 120 metres ahead of the chasing Porsche after twenty-four hours, driven by Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver, a fourth straight Le Mans win for Ford (1969 24 Hours of Le Mans, The Henry Ford). The same chassis had also won at Monza, Watkins Glen and Spa in period (Supercar Nostalgia).

Why Does a Mk I Matter More Than the Mk IV?

Because it should not have been competitive. By 1969 the GT40 Mk I was an old design running against purpose-built 3-litre prototypes, and it won on reliability, brakes and drivers rather than pace. A single chassis winning Le Mans twice is rarer still, which is why 1075 is the most valuable identity in the GT40 story.

Who Is This Print For?

This GT40 print suits Le Mans and endurance racing collectors, Gulf livery enthusiasts, Ford motorsport historians, and studies, bars and workshops that want a car working rather than parked. The trees and hoardings give it depth that a pit-lane shot cannot. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
