About This Image

A period illustration of a dark 1941 Lincoln Continental Cabriolet with its top raised, drawn in profile on a lawn before a columned house.

What Is in This Illustration?

A stylised painted scene in muted greens and greys. The car is shown in full side view, very low and long, in near-black with a pale cream folding top raised over a rose-coloured interior, whitewall tyres, a vertical bar grille and the Continental's enclosed rear wheel treatment. The Lincoln Continental script is lettered on the flank. Behind it the ground rises to a flat lawn with a white statue on a plinth, a row of simplified bare and foliaged trees painted as soft masses, and a deep pink house with a white portico and four columns at the right. The sky is flat grey with a few hard-edged white clouds.

What Is the Continental?

Edsel Ford's personal project turned production car. He worked with Ford stylist Eugene T. "Bob" Gregorie to design a one-off two-door Lincoln convertible for his own use in 1938 and 1939, and demand for copies turned it into the Continental (Hemmings, HowStuffWorks). Edsel had established the Ford Design Department in 1935 and brought Gregorie, a former yacht designer, into it (Curbside Classic).

Why Was It Sold as an Illustration?

Because illustration could promise a world that photography could only record. The flattened trees, the pink house and the statue are not a real place; they are a statement about the buyer. Period Lincoln advertising leaned on painted scenes precisely because an artist could stretch the car's proportions, simplify the setting and control every colour in the frame.

Who Is This Print For?

This Lincoln Continental print suits Continental and prewar Lincoln owners, collectors of period automotive illustration and advertising art, formal interiors, studies and libraries. The restrained palette makes it one of the quietest images in the archive, which is often exactly what a panelled room needs. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
