What Is in This Photograph?

A head-on view down the centre line, the cars fanned back from the foreground in two diverging lines. At the point is the current generation in pale blue, hood vents open, the running horse centred in its grille. On the left, a cream coupe with a commemorative badge on the flank and a white Shelby with twin blue stripes. On the right, a turquoise 1960s fastback with chrome bumpers and louvred rear quarters, and a white car with gold striping from the Mustang II era. Two more sit at the far end of the road. Tall summer grass, tree lines and a sky full of broken cumulus fill everything above the tarmac.

What Is the Mustang's Span?

The Mustang went on sale at the New York World's Fair on 17 April 1964 and set an industry record with more than 418,000 cars sold in its first year (Ford). It is Ford's longest nameplate in continuous production and is now in its seventh generation (Ford Mustang). The ten millionth car was built in 2018 (TopSpeed).
