What Is in This Photograph?

A low rear three-quarter colour frame under a hard blue sky. The car wears a deep blue nose and roof, a white flank carrying a large outlined running-horse graphic, and a red rear bumper and diffuser section, with the livery broken by fine blue chevrons where white meets red. A tall swan-neck rear wing stands above the deck with FORD in white on a red endplate panel, and a second FORD wordmark is picked out on the barrier behind. The number 64 appears on the rear quarter in a white roundel and again on the rear bumper alongside GTD PRO lettering, with Michelin, VP Racing, Multimatic and WeatherTech marks across the bodywork. The wheels are dark multi-spoke centre-lock alloys on slick tyres, the rear arch heavily blistered. Behind the car the grandstand rises in tiers of multicoloured empty seats with the glass-fronted control tower to the right and floodlight masts along the top.

What Is the Mustang GT3?

Ford's first factory GT3 car, engineered by Ford Performance with Multimatic Motorsports on the seventh-generation Mustang. It uses a dry-sump 5.4-litre naturally aspirated Coyote V8 developed with M-Sport, a rear-mounted six-speed Xtrac transaxle with electronic shift actuation, bespoke short-long arm suspension and Multimatic DSSV dampers (Multimatic Motorsports, Mustang GT3 overview). The car was unveiled on 9 June 2023 at the centenary Le Mans and made its race debut at the 24 Hours of Daytona in January 2024, with roughly 550 horsepower and a weight around 2,842 lb (Ford Mustang GT3, Motorsportmarkt).

Why Shoot It With the Grandstand Empty?

Because an empty Daytona is a portrait setting and a full one is not. The tiers of coloured seats become a flat graphic field, the tower gives the location away without a caption, and nothing competes with the car. Taken from low at the rear, the frame also puts the wing, the diffuser and the blistered rear arches in the same view, which is where a GT3 car's aerodynamic regulation actually shows.
