What Is in This Photograph?

A side-on view from slightly below, the Bronco angled up a rock outcrop in the right foreground. The body is bright red with no doors and no roof: the windscreen frame stands alone, the bench and bucket seats are open to the sky, and the driver wears a hat at the wheel. Bronco script sits on the front wing, the grille carries the early eyebrow treatment, and the plate reads 1966. Behind, sagebrush gives way to green pasture, a scatter of ranch buildings with green roofs, a line of trees, and a long snow-covered range under broken cloud.

What Is the U13 Roadster?

The rarest of the three original Bronco bodies. The Bronco was announced on 11 August 1965 and reached showrooms as a 1966 model, offered as a roadster, a half-cab pickup and a wagon, with a 105 horsepower 170 cubic inch six as the standard engine (Hyman Ltd). The doorless U13 Roadster sold in tiny numbers, with only a few hundred bodied by Budd before Ford took the work in house (MotorTrend).
