This archival advertisement is an early Ford dealer display poster reading Buy Your Wife a Ford, showing a young woman in a cloche hat at the wheel.

About This Image

An early Ford dealer display poster reading "Buy Your Wife a Ford", with a young woman in a cloche hat at the wheel below the script Ford signature.

What Is in This Advertisement?

A tall lithographed poster on cream stock inside a thin dark border. The headline runs across the top in three lines of heavy dark brown lettering, "Buy Your Wife" then "a", then the Ford script signature set large and sweeping. Below it a woman is shown from the chest up, turned toward the viewer, wearing a wide-brimmed pale hat with a green band, a green jacket and a white blouse, one gloved hand on a wooden steering wheel with the spark and throttle levers visible on the column. The artist's signature sits at the lower left, and at the lower right the printer's imprint reads The Akron Tire Display Co., Akron, O.

Why Was Ford Advertising to Women?

Because the company had identified them as a market early and designed campaigns for them specifically. The Henry Ford's collection includes period Model T advertising aimed directly at female buyers, including the 1924 advertisement headlined "Freedom for the Woman Who Owns a Ford" (The Henry Ford, The Henry Ford digital collections). This poster belongs to the same argument, though it makes it to the husband rather than to the driver.

Why Is the Wording Worth Keeping?

Because it dates the poster more precisely than any typeface. The headline assumes a household where the car is bought by a man and used by a woman, and the image undercuts it slightly by putting her in confident control of the wheel. Read now it is a document of both the marketing and the social arrangement it was written into, which is exactly why period advertising is collected.

Who Is This Print For?

This Ford advertisement print suits collectors of early automotive advertising, Model T owners, social history and graphic design enthusiasts, and kitchen, hallway or shop interiors where a tall poster works. Its cream ground and single dark headline colour make it easy to hang against almost any wall. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
