About This Image
About This Image
This is graphic artwork rather than a photograph: the 1970 Mustang Boss 302 reduced to flat colour and line, red and white over deep navy.
What Is in This Poster?
A three-quarter rear view of a Boss 302 fastback, drawn rather than photographed, with the tail panel and its triple-lens rear lamps picked out in red. A red, white and blue stripe runs vertically down the left edge behind the type, which reads 70 MUSTANG BOSS 302 in heavy condensed capitals. The running horse emblem sits below. Everything unnecessary has been removed: no background, no reflections, no shadow.
What Was the Boss 302?
It was a homologation car. SCCA Trans-Am rules required a manufacturer to build a thousand road examples of anything it wanted to race, so Ford built the Boss 302 with a high-revving 302 cubic inch V8, canted-valve heads, a solid-lifter camshaft, an aluminium high-riser intake and a 780 cfm Holley. Advertised output was 290 horsepower, matching the Camaro Z/28 and understated to keep insurance premiums down. Ford built roughly 7,013 for the 1970 model year, the second and final year of the car.
Did It Win?
Yes. Bud Moore Engineering ran the Boss 302 in Trans-Am in 1970 and Parnelli Jones took the championship, with George Follmer alongside him in the second car. The road car exists because of that programme, which is why a graphic treatment focused on stripes and lettering is true to how the car was sold.
Who Is This Print For?
This Boss 302 poster suits Mustang collectors, Trans-Am enthusiasts, poster and graphic art collectors, garage interiors and man caves. Flat graphic treatment gives it more presence at scale than a period photograph, and it sits comfortably beside other poster art rather than competing with it. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.
