What Is in This Photograph?

A pure side view with the car lit from above and the background dropped to black. The fastback roofline runs unbroken from the windscreen to the tail, with the louvred panel in place of a rear quarter window, and the body is Wimbledon White with a thin blue rocker stripe lettered G.T.350 behind the front wheel. Two blue bonnet stripes are just visible over the nose, and the bonnet scoop breaks the line of the wing. It sits on Cragar-style five-spoke alloy wheels, the front wheel turned very slightly toward the camera, with a front chin valance close to the floor and a small blue and white licence plate at the nose. No badge interrupts the flank behind the stripe.

What Makes a 1965 Car Recognisable?

The fastback's louvred rear quarter panel, which Shelby retained for 1965 and replaced with a glazed quarter window and functional brake ducts for 1966. Underneath, the cars left Shelby American in Venice with the 306 horsepower Hi-Performance 289, a four-speed gearbox, uprated suspension with special strut tower bracing and a roll bar (HowStuffWorks, Audrain Automobile Museum, Classic Motorsports).

Because the silhouette is the argument. A GT350 in profile is a study in one long diagonal from the nose to the tail, and any background at all competes with it.
