About This Image

The start of the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours, with the number 1 Ford Mk IV of Dan Gurney and A. J. Foyt already pulling away up the road.

What Is in This Photograph?

A black-and-white view along the pit straight from low down at the edge of the track. On the left the cars are still in their echelon on the pit apron, car 2 nearest the camera with more prototypes and coupes stacked behind it. Further up the road the number 1 Mk IV is already clear and accelerating, with a second Ford alongside it and a line of cars disappearing into haze in the distance. Above the pit counters the grandstand is packed solid, and a long row of national flags on tall poles runs the full length of the frame, Union Jacks among them. Trade signs for oil and tyre companies hang from the pit fascia, and dust hangs in the air over the far cars.

What Happened in the Race?

Gurney and Foyt won it, leading from the second hour, and it remains the only all-American victory in Le Mans history with American drivers, an American car and an American team (1967 24 Hours of Le Mans). Their Mk IV covered 389 laps and 5,232.900 km at an average of 218.038 km/h, a distance record for the circuit as it was then configured (Le Mans historic statistics, 24h-lemans.com).

Why Is the Start Worth a Frame of Its Own?

Because it is the only moment when the whole entry is in one picture. Within a lap the field is strung out over eight miles and never gathers again, so a photograph taken from track level at the drop shows the size of the grid, the height of the stands and the flags in a way no later frame can. The car that matters here is already ahead, which is the story of the next twenty-four hours in miniature.

Who Is This Print For?

This 1967 Le Mans print suits endurance racing collectors, Gurney and Foyt admirers, Ford motorsport historians, and offices, bars or garages that want a crowd and an occasion rather than a single car. The flags and the packed stands give it depth at large sizes. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
