What Is in This Photograph?

The car is raised and photographed from directly beneath, nose toward the top of the frame. The smooth aerodynamic under-tray covers the whole front section, fixed by rows of visible fasteners. Below it sit the front crossmember and control arms, blue-sleeved lines running to each side, the transmission and driveshaft on the centreline, and the silver floorpan panels with the exhaust system threaded between them — including the crossover and the pipes that turn outward toward the sills. Yellow diagonal bracing crosses the rear of the shot. Tyre treads frame both edges.

What Was the 2012 Boss 302?

A track-focused Mustang revived from the 1969 name, using a reworked version of the 5.0-litre Coyote V8 known internally as Road Runner: 444 horsepower at 7,500 rpm and 380 pound-feet, 32 horsepower more than the standard 5.0, with an 11.0:1 compression ratio and a base price of about 40,995 dollars. Its defining feature was a quad exhaust with both rear and side outlets, the side pipes fitted with removable baffles so owners could open them up for track use.

The belly pan, the revised suspension geometry and the side-exit exhaust are the changes that separate a Boss 302 from a Mustang GT, and none of them are visible in a conventional three-quarter view.
