What Is in This Photograph?

A colour studio frame shot from above and behind on a plain grey sweep, with a faint turntable circle drawn on the floor. The Ranchero is bright red with a black vinyl roof covering, a matt black stripe running the length of the lower body and a second black panel across the bonnet. The open load bed is ribbed and painted black inside, fitted with a chrome rail around the top edge and two chrome rails running fore and aft along the floor, and a black-painted spare wheel lies flat against the front bulkhead. Chrome brightwork surrounds the tail-gate, the rear lamps stand vertically at the outer corners, and the tail-gate carries a licence plate. Cursive Ranchero script sits on the rear wing behind the door, above five-spoke argent and chrome wheels wearing Goodyear Polyglas tyres with raised white lettering.

What Was the Ranchero GT?

A car-based pickup, by 1969 built on the intermediate Torino platform rather than the older Fairlane, sharing that car's 116-inch wheelbase and its engine range (Classic Car Authority, Ford Torino model year 1969). Engines ran from a six through the 289, 302, 351 and FE 390 V8s, with the 428 Cobra Jet available in 1968 and 1969 as the performance option (SuperMotors registry, Eckler's). The GT was the trim level that brought the stripes, the bright wheels and the sporting interior.

Why Shoot It From Above?
