About This Image

A Ford Mustang GTD in a wind tunnel, a green laser light sheet cutting vertically through the airflow beside it.

What Is in This Photograph?

A side view in near darkness. A single sheet of green laser light runs floor to ceiling just behind the front wheel, flaring where it crosses the bodywork and reflecting off the polished floor as a long green streak. The rest of the room is lit in orange and deep red, which rakes across the flank and picks out the vent behind the front wheel, the rear wing and the bronze wheels. A white column at the right carries the word HENRY set vertically. The car is on the tunnel floor with its splitter almost touching it.

What Is the Laser For?

Flow visualisation. A laser sheet illuminates a single plane of the moving air so engineers can see where it separates, reattaches and recirculates, rather than only reading numbers off a balance. Ford tests in a Rolling Road Wind Tunnel capable of simulating wind and road surface speeds up to 200 mph, which lets the underbody and wheels be evaluated with the ground moving as it does in reality (Ford Media).

Why Is This a Rare Kind of Photograph?

Because almost nobody sees inside a wind tunnel. Manufacturers guard the facility, the schedule and the results, and the visual language of the place is nothing like a studio or a racetrack: no sky, no road, no motion, just laser light, coloured fill and a stationary car. It documents the least public part of building a 202 mph road car.

Who Is This Print For?

This wind tunnel print suits aerodynamicists and engineers, motorsport and automotive design studios, GTD enthusiasts, and interiors that can take a dark, saturated image. The green laser line against orange gives it more graphic force than almost any daylight car photograph. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.

About the Artwork

Artwork in this collection comes from the Ford Motor Company Archives, The Henry Ford Museum, the Carroll Shelby Archives, and the collections of acclaimed photographers and painters from around the world. Reproduction rights are reserved by the respective copyright owners.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
