About This Image
About This Image
Ford's entire racing programme arranged on one banked circuit: a GT40, Indianapolis cars, Mustangs, NASCAR stock cars and drag machines, each with its driver standing alongside in white overalls.
What Is in This Photograph?
Shot from above the banking looking down. A GT40 carrying number 2 sits closest to the camera with its driver crouched beside it. Behind it an Indianapolis roadster, a white Ford-badged prototype, Shelby Mustangs with numbers 80 and 32, NASCAR sedans including number 28, and drag cars lettered for Hayward Ford and Russ Davis Ford are staggered across the track surface. Every driver wears white. The hillside and a distant mountain line close the frame.
What Was Total Performance?
A global Ford advertising and competition campaign of the 1960s, declared by Henry Ford II for the 1962 model year. The policy was to compete in every major form of motorsport — sports car endurance racing, Indianapolis, NASCAR, drag racing and rallying — and then translate the results into showroom credibility for road cars. It ran through roughly 1970 and produced Le Mans, Indianapolis and NASCAR success within a few seasons.
Why Assemble Them All at Once?
Because the argument was breadth, not a single win. A photograph of one car proves one result. A photograph of every discipline together, with the drivers present, is the campaign itself made visible — which is precisely what Ford's public relations department wanted a single frame to do.
Who Is This Print For?
This Total Performance print suits Ford collectors who follow more than one discipline, motorsport historians, dealership showrooms and commercial interiors. Few single images cover sports prototypes, Indianapolis, NASCAR and drag racing at once, which makes this one unusually effective as a centrepiece rather than part of a set. Choose framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal or Giclée.
