This official archive photograph documents the 1976 Ford Mustang Stallion, a little-known appearance package for the Mustang II introduced alongside the better-remembered Cobra II. It used black accent treatment and Stallion decals over the fastback body. Ford applied the Stallion name across several 1976 models as a low-cost sporting identity. Available as a framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal print, or Giclée art print.

About This Image

This official archive image documents the 1976 Ford Mustang Stallion, one of two youth-market appearance packages Ford added to the Mustang II that year alongside the Cobra II. The Stallion used blacked-out exterior accents, unique decals and sports wheels over the fastback body, and is now among the least common Mustang II variants to survive.

What Was the Stallion Package?

The Stallion was an appearance group rather than a performance model, applying blacked-out grille, bumper, window surround and lower body treatment with Stallion identification and styled wheels.

Ford used the Stallion name across several models in 1976, including the Pinto and Maverick, as a low-cost way of giving mid-1970s cars a sporting identity in a market where power outputs had fallen sharply.

Why Is the Stallion So Overlooked?

The Cobra II arrived in the same model year with a far more aggressive look — racing stripes, a rear spoiler, a bonnet scoop and prominent Cobra badging — and it captured almost all of the attention then and since.

That has made the Stallion genuinely scarce today. Low original take-up combined with the Mustang II's historically poor survival rate means an original Stallion is a harder car to find than most higher-profile 1970s Mustangs.

What Was the Mustang II?

Context for the 1974-78 generation:

  • Launched for 1974, radically smaller than the 1971-73 Mustang
  • Based on Ford Pinto underpinnings with substantial revision
  • No V8 available in the first year; the 302 returned for 1975
  • Arrived just as the 1973 oil crisis hit, and sold strongly as a result
  • Named Motor Trend Car of the Year for 1974

Who Is This Print For?

This 1976 Mustang Stallion print appeals to Mustang II owners, collectors of rare packages, 1970s car enthusiasts, restoration shops, offices and garages. As vintage Ford wall art it covers an era most collections skip entirely. Choose framed, canvas, metal or Giclée formats for a home office, study, museum display or Ford wall decor programme.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
