This official archive photograph documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, identified by its matt black bonnet, hood pins, reflective side stripes and optional shaker hood scoop. The Mach 1 was the best-selling performance Mustang of its era. It combined the new 351 Cleveland V8 with a competition-style interior fitted as standard. Available as a framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal print, or Giclée art print.

About This Image

This official archive image documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, the model that made performance Mustang ownership mainstream. Positioned below the homologation Boss cars but well above the standard SportsRoof, the Mach 1 combined the new 351 Cleveland V8, a functional shaker hood scoop and the strongest visual identity in the range.

Why Did the Mach 1 Sell So Well?

The Boss 302 and Boss 429 were homologation specials built in small numbers at high prices. The Mach 1 delivered most of the look and a large share of the performance at a price ordinary buyers could reach.

It was also comprehensively equipped, with a competition-style interior, high-back bucket seats, simulated wood trim and a full instrument package included rather than optional — a performance car that was also a pleasant place to sit.

What Was the Shaker Hood?

The shaker scoop was mounted directly to the engine's air cleaner and protruded through an opening in the bonnet, so it moved visibly with the engine as it idled and under load.

It served a real function, drawing cool air from outside the engine bay, but its appeal was largely theatrical. It remains one of the most requested options on restored 1970 Mach 1s.

What Identifies a 1970 Mach 1?

Standard and optional Mach 1 features:

  • Matt black or argent bonnet finish with hood pins
  • Reflective side and rear tail panel stripes
  • Front chin spoiler and honeycomb rear panel appliqué
  • High-back bucket seats and full instrumentation as standard
  • 351 Windsor or 351 Cleveland V8, with the 428 Cobra Jet available early in the year

Who Is This Print For?

This 1970 Mach 1 print suits Mustang owners, Mach 1 enthusiasts, shaker hood devotees, restoration shops, offices, garages and dealership showrooms. As vintage Ford wall art the Mach 1's graphics and stance carry a print at large sizes. Choose framed, canvas, metal or Giclée formats for a home office, study, museum display or Ford wall decor programme.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
