This official archive photograph documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, built in the year Bud Moore Engineering took Ford to the Trans-Am manufacturers' championship. 1970 was the larger of the two Boss 302 production years, with around 7,000 cars built. Available as a framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal print, or Giclée art print.

About This Image

This official archive image documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 302, the second and final year of the model. It received the restyled twin-headlamp front end, revised hockey-stick side stripes and a standard front spoiler. On track, Bud Moore Engineering's Boss 302s took Ford the 1970 Trans-Am manufacturers' championship with Parnelli Jones and George Follmer driving.

How Did the 1970 Boss 302 Differ From the 1969?

The 1970 car took the general Mustang restyle — twin headlamps in a wider grille with simulated outboard intakes — and replaced the 1969 reflective C-stripe with a broad 'hockey stick' stripe running along the upper body side and forward over the bonnet edge.

Mechanically the changes were refinements: smaller inlet valves for better low-speed response, a Hurst shifter as standard and revised final drive ratios.

What Happened in the 1970 Trans-Am Season?

For 1970 Ford consolidated its Trans-Am effort behind stock car constructor Bud Moore, who ran two Boss 302s — number 15 for Parnelli Jones and number 16 for George Follmer — in the team's distinctive yellow-orange.

Against Roger Penske's Sunoco AMC Javelin driven by Mark Donohue, Ford took the manufacturers' championship. It was the high point of the programme, and Ford withdrew from the series soon afterwards.

How Many Boss 302s Were Built?

Production context for the model:

  • Produced for the 1969 and 1970 model years only
  • Around 8,600 built in total across both years
  • 1970 accounted for roughly 7,000 of that total
  • 290 horsepower from 302 cubic inches with canted-valve heads
  • Won Ford the 1970 Trans-Am manufacturers' championship

Who Is This Print For?

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
