This official archive photograph documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1, restyled that year with twin rather than quad headlamps and available with the new 351 Cleveland V8 and a functional shaker hood scoop mounted directly to the air cleaner. The Mach 1 was Ford's mainstream performance Mustang and the best-selling of the era. Available as a framed print, stretched canvas, ChromaLuxe metal print, or Giclée art print.

About This Image

This official archive image documents the 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1. For 1970 the Mustang returned to twin headlamps set inside a wider grille, with simulated air intakes replacing the outboard lamps. The Mach 1 gained the new 351 Cleveland V8 and the option of a functional shaker hood scoop mounted directly to the engine.

What Was the Mach 1?

The Mach 1 was introduced for 1969 as the Mustang's mainstream performance model — below the homologation Boss cars but clearly above the standard SportsRoof. It combined performance equipment with a strong visual identity.

That identity included a matt black bonnet with a scoop, hood pins, reflective side stripes, a chin spoiler, styled wheels and a competition-look interior. It became the best-selling performance Mustang of the era.

What Changed for 1970?

The 1970 restyle simplified the 1969 front end. The outboard headlamps were replaced with recessed simulated intakes and the two remaining lamps moved into a wider grille, giving a cleaner, broader face. At the rear the tail panel was recessed.

Under the bonnet the new 351 cubic inch Cleveland V8 arrived, with better-breathing canted-valve heads, and the shaker hood scoop — mounted to the air cleaner so it visibly moved with the engine — became one of the era's most memorable options.

What Engines Could a 1970 Mach 1 Have?

The 1970 Mach 1 engine choices:

  • 351 Windsor two-barrel as the base Mach 1 engine
  • 351 Cleveland four-barrel, new for 1970
  • 428 Cobra Jet, available early in the model year
  • Functional shaker hood scoop optional on four-barrel cars
  • Ram-Air induction, Drag Pack axle options and a four-speed manual

Who Is This Print For?

This 1970 Mach 1 print suits Mustang owners, Mach 1 and Cleveland engine enthusiasts, Ford collectors, restoration shops, offices, garages and dealership showrooms. As vintage Ford wall art the 1970 Mach 1 is among the most graphically confident Mustangs Ford built. Choose framed, canvas, metal or Giclée formats for a home office, study, museum display or Ford wall decor programme.

Framed Print

Our framed prints feature a black, hand-stained solid wood frame with a white mat, museum-quality paper, archival inks, Acrylite glazing, and hanging hardware. The frame features a slim 0.8-inch face and projects 1.3 inches from the wall, creating a clean, contemporary shadow-box effect. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Stretched Canvas

Our stretched canvas prints are produced on acid-free, pH-neutral, and fade-resistant canvas. Each canvas is hand-glued to solid wood stretcher bars and stretched over 1.25-inch-thick pine bars. Mounting brackets are included. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

Giclée Art Print

Our Giclée prints are produced using premium 200gsm semi-gloss paper and high-quality archival inks. Each print includes a white border around the perimeter.

For the 40 x 60 size, we use 250gsm museum-quality archival paper with an off-white, uncoated finish.

The listed size refers to the overall paper dimensions. The image is printed proportionally within the selected paper size. Made in the USA or Europe, depending on your location.

ChromaLuxe

ChromaLuxe prints use a state-of-the-art coating process that infuses the image directly onto sheets of alloy metal. The result is photography with an exceptional combination of vibrancy, clarity, and durability.

Each print arrives ready to hang. An alloy subframe on the back allows the artwork to float away from the wall for a sleek, modern appearance. This is the finest-quality print we offer. Made in the USA.
