1968 Ford Mustang: Specifications, Equipment & Factory Sources

Ford Knowledge Base / Mustang / 1968

Explore the 1968 Ford Mustang through original Ford sales literature, engineering specifications and related archive photographs.

Read the edition as well as the model year. This reference covers the U.S. production range. The W058 sales catalog, its W366 revision dated December 1967, and the AMA specification sheets with April 1968 revisions describe different publication stages. A printed listing is evidence of what Ford documented, rather than proof that a particular car was built with that equipment. Horsepower figures are Ford’s period published ratings.

Each entry below is corroborated in three distinct Ford publication families. Revisions and duplicate scans count once. These sources share Ford’s corporate origin; they are not three independent external evidence chains. References use PDF page positions.

Why publication differences matter

The original and revised sales catalogs disagree on fuel capacity, steering figures and approximate weights, and they show different engine listings. The AMA compilation also contains revisions dated on individual pages. These differences remain visible in the source record; they are not combined into a single specification for every 1968 Mustang.

427 and 428 engine production and availability, the full transmission matrix, exact weights and detailed build-change dates require further evidence. The racing 302 is kept separate from the regular production choices above.
