Publication differences and research limits
The September 1960 retail folder, November 10, 1960 AMA sheets and first-printing shop manual retain their edition identities. Additional brochure formats count within the same retail family. The advertisements corroborate the standard equipment entries above; their precise magazine issue dates are not established.
Torque and engine-speed figures, additional chassis dimensions, axle ratios and broader option claims are withheld from the verified set pending third-family corroboration. Swing-Away option availability is corroborated above; its operating dimensions and exact introduction timing are not inferred from exterior photographs. Crankcase-ventilation market applicability and exact introduction/changeover dates remain pending.
One archive record titled with an April 1961 photograph date expressly identifies a 1962-model Thunderbird. It is excluded from these 1961 production illustrations. The linked service manual is a limited sample; no inaccessible service pages are presented as inspected.
Entries describe published U.S. production offerings, not the equipment installed in any photographed car. Prototype, competition, export and Canadian-market evidence is kept separate. Duplicate or revised scans count within their publication family. No engine, hidden equipment, paint code or exact build or capture date is inferred from photographs.
Archive photographs
Both current archive photographs were compared visually with the original Ford retail folder(PDF2–3) and corporate mailer’s Thunderbird spread(PDF7). The hardtop matches the roof, grille and body profile; the convertible matches the round rear lamp housings, rear-quarter trim and deck forms. Original product and media identities are retained. No exact photograph date, engine, paint code or concealed equipment is assigned.
