Ford Knowledge Base / Thunderbird / 1954 prototype and preview research
Explore Thunderbird’s early publicity through original Ford documents and prototype photographs.
Calendar-year 1954 prototype and preview research. This page covers advance publicity and design studies. It is separate from the 1955 production reference. Published preview specifications do not establish the equipment or date of a photographed car.
Verified preview entries
Each entry cites three distinct inspected original Ford publication families. They share Ford Motor Company as corporate origin. The retail folder, News Bureau announcement, magazine advertisement and Ford Times editorial remain separate; reprints of the same document do not add another family.

Dating, editions and research limits
The announcement’s February 19 release instruction and February 11 preparation footer identify the document’s production history. The introductory folder carries a 1954 copyright and advance-availability wording; neither establishes an exact photograph date. The advertisement’s collector-supplied April date remains a catalogue attribution.
The Henry Ford’s THF108020 prototype record is useful comparison material for the side-trim study, but it is a different view and does not prove a shared negative or exposure date. Its catalogue date and reverse annotation need reconciliation. The THF116720 photograph and caption reverse provide further period comparison material. Museum descriptions and later Ford histories are research aids, not additional original publication families for the verified entries.
Exact build and photo dates, prototype identity, dimensions, displacement, seating capacity, full equipment combinations, production totals and the detailed transition to production remain pending claim-by-claim corroboration. Specifications from later production literature are not substituted for the preview material. No existing product identification has been changed.
